I have just visited Homeopathy Online for the first time and am so excited to find such current research material. I am searching for information on Bioenergetic Analysis and technicians in my state (Indiana) where I may have the analysis performed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The word "homeopathy" is translated from two Greek words (omoion and pathos) which together mean "similar suffering". This defines what homeopathy is, and what it is not. Homeopathy (similar suffering) indicates treatment with remedies that can produce a state similar to that of the person being treated. Any other basis for prescribing cannot, by definition, be called homeopathy.
An example of this contradiction in terms is the "causal sequential" prescribing erroneously discussed under the name of homeopathy in the latest issue of Homeopathy Online. Obviously, a medicine cannot "produce a cause", so causal prescribing cannot be called homeopathic prescribing. For example, the provings of Ignatia amara did not *cause* tragedies in the provers' lives that left them grieving, so the mechanical prescribing of Ignatia for all tragedy victims can not be termed "homeopathy". If a tragedy victim's state of suffering was similar to the state that Ignatia can produce, then Ignatia would indeed be homeopathic to the case, and its prescription on that basis should logically be referred to as "homeopathy" rather than "causal sequential therapy".
Of course, we are all entitled to our opinions on how medicine should be practised, and this applies to "causal sequential" prescribing as much as to any other approach. However we should be very aware that only those approaches based on "similar suffering" can be called homeopathy. Causal sequential therapy is not
Please note that I have not said prescribing approaches other than "similar suffering" are wrong: I have only said that they cannot, by definition, be considered homeopathic.

Another great magazine! Thanks, Katherine, for all you've done setting this up. And thanks to all who've written such interesting articles.
I've read Rudolph Verspoor's article with great interest. Obviously, what he's doing is working. I'm still new to all this, so it puzzles me that there's so much tension over whether the homeopathy is "pure" or not. If it cures, it makes no difference to the patient what label it's given.
Patty Smith's Sam's Case was of particular interest to me. Thanks, Patty, for a great article!
Haven't finished the rest yet, but wanted to comment on what I've read so far.

Dear sir. Congratulations for your very important page. I live in Brazil, where there are many experienced homeopathic physicians. I am a general surgeon that was cured by Sulfur and Graphitis, after two years using corticosteroids so I decided to study homeopathy and I still use it in my private clinic. Please continue your Magazine because it is really very useful to us.

This site looks great! I look forward to spending much time here.
Does anyone know of any book by a homeopath that strongly promotes extended breastfeeding? Also is there any book which details the healing properties and disease prevention of breastmilk? I know it cures conjunctivitus if squirted in the baby's eye and that breastfed babies grow up to have a much lower incidence of asthma but I do wonder what other secrets it holds.
Editor's Response:I don't know any homeopth who would argue against the natural upbringing of an infant, including breast feeding. To be fair, I must say that also many conventionally trained pediatricians are strong advocates of natural breast feeding.
The point where homeopathy transcends convetional medicine is the proving of mothers' milk as a remedy. There are two very similar remedies available: Lac humanum and Lac maternum. They differ in that one is the milk of one particular mother and the other is a mixture of the milk of several nursing mothers. However, I must admit that these remedies are new additions to our fundus and, although looking very promising, are still being developed in their symptom picture.

Dear Homeopathy Online,
In the rebuttal to my counterpoint article on ST it was suggested that what I wrote was more similar religious dogma then true science. Why is it that nearly 200 years of carefully recorded observations about medicinal actions by several generations of homeopaths is "unscientific" while the word of a sequential therapist should be taken as "reality". Homeopaths have witnessed the negative outcome of using too many remedies, too quickly in succession, and in too high of a potencies (let alone in combinations of 200, 1M & 10M). Too many aggravations and too many reactions in the name of healing!
Such a methodology does not offer the rapid, gentle and permanent cure Hahnemann set forth as the goal for Homeopathy. This is because in ST they ignore the principles of the individualization of treatment, the single remedy, the minimal dose, minimal intervention, and the fact that true causation is within the constitution not the pathogens. Calling such well proven observations old fashioned or dogma will not change the situation in the slightest. Just responding with new age pseudo-scientific jargon about trying to discuss quantum physics with someone who has a Newtonian world view will not prevent the unneeded suffering that excessive medication causes. It would be far more useful to figure out why there are so many prolonged aggravations produced by Sequential Therapy and prevent them. I believe the answer to this question is obvious to experience Homeopaths.
Similia Minimus Yours sincerely, David Little

I will post your question to the mailing list in the hope that somebody of the 600+ members knows more than I. If I hear anything I will post it here as well for other readers of Homeopathy Online to see.

I have been using homeopathy for the last three years, but since I moved to Miami-Florida I have not found a real homeopathic doctor. Do you know a good one? Thank you.
Editor's Response:
You may find pointers on Steve Waldstein's Web page. The URL is: http://www.dimensional.com/~stevew/referral.htm.
Hope that helps, -- C. K.

Dear Homeopathy On-line,
David Little has critcised my rebuttal to his counterpoint article. I did not,I believe, argue that 200 years of carefully recorded observations by homeopaths was unscientific. Rather, I argued that what was unscientific was the view that somehow homeopathy could not go beyond those observations and the Organon on which many of Davids criticisms of ST are based.
True science always accepts another hypothesis based on clinical evidence even if the hypothesis seems to go against the received wisdom.
David Littles main criticism seems to be that ST produces unecessary aggravations. I would like to pose a series of questions.
Does he mean the homeopathic aggravation or the healing reaction, which are quite distinct?
How does he know that ST produces such aggravtions? Has he used it? Are these aggravations greater than those found in the classical literature?
There is the larger question as to whether one can have said to have removed the disorder without some aggravation, in the form of the healing reaction.
It might be useful to re-read Kents Lectures on Homeopathic Philosophy in this regard, particularly as to the meaning of"gentle."
I agree that the cure should be as gentle as possible, but we need to agree on the term. We also need to take into account the other two factors, rapidity and permanence, before we can say which is the more effective approach.
If well-proven observations are dogma, then that is a fact. That they are well-proven cannot protect them from the charge if it is true. Dogma is the insistence on adhereing to principles in the face of evidence to the contrary.
I can accept that there will be differences of opinion as to the evidence, but this we need to discuss. We need to agree on what we mean by the terms, rather than to reject something because it seems to violate certain principles, which are not immutable, as much as we would wish them to be (even the Law of the conservation of Energy is open to question).
Sincerely, Rudi Verspoor

Dear Homeopathy Online: Thank you for all the wonderful work you have done informing us on the latest information. As a newcomer to the field of homeopathy, and a student of B.I.H. I would like to know if anyone can suggest a good software package for beginners. I would appreciate any recommendations as I would like to get it as soon as possible. Thank you, Linda McCarthy
Editor's Response:The question: "Which computer program should I use?" is a common one among students of homeopathy. The right answer almost always is: "None." I realize that you rightly demand justification of me for such a negative statement. First off, I want to say that I use computers as a daily tool and am not ridden by any kind of anti-technology fanaticism -- on the contrary. Here is my take on the matter:
Using a computer program in the early to intermediate stages of learning homeoapthy is like learning to write on a word processor in first grade. It just isn't the right tool for the job. Used too early, homeopathic software will hamper your learning and certainly not contribute to more accurate prescribing. There comes a stage when you will have graduated to an intermediate level of mastery, and then a computer program will become a useful tool and immense timesaver to you. The point is to judge when that time has come. From your letter I am almost certain that you still have some way to go before a computer will help you become a better homeopath.
That said, and for readers who deem themselves ready to wield the power and convenience of modern technology, there are currently three programs on the market which can justly claim to "aim at the professional market." These are (in alphabetical order) Cara, MacRepertory, and Radar. All three are available for the PC as well as the Macintosh and cost a bundle of money (well over U$ 1000, depending on optional add-ons). There are more things common among them than dividing them. This letter is not the place to discuss their relative merits, rather I would like to alert the reader to upcoming product comparisons, which are to appear soon in Homeopathy Online. Apart from these repertorization aids, there are also two programs, Zizia and Reference Works, which circumvent the use of a repertory by allowing you sophisticated search access directly into the Materia Medica books.
Besidesthose just named, there are a handful of other programs, ususally much cheaper in price. The old adage "you get what you pay for" seems to apply here too. I cannot recommend any of them to the serious student or practitioner. And I have a hard time to see the utility of computer software in self-care prescribing. Better not to rely on the availability of a computer in an emergency or acute situation.
Before closing, I want to compliment the authors and developers of homeopathy software. Their work has certainly helped homeopathy along, closer to the 21st century :-) Outstanding job, guys!

After reading your article on folliculinum, I tried the rememdy as a last resort after two years of unsuccessful allopathic and homeopathic treatments for an irregular menstrual cycle. The effect after one month has been very encouraging and has cleared up a number of other symptoms I never thought were related. I doubt if I would have found this remedy without your page, so a big thank-you. Has anyone else taken folliculinum or treated a patient with it? I would be interested to hear from them.
Editor's Response:I am always happy to see that the information we make available is being put to use. However, one word of caution to any newcomer to the field or people willing to barge in and "try anything:"
Selecting a homepathic remedy to help you with long standing or chronic complaints -- without the proper training and experience as a homeopathy -- is almost never a good idea. The chances that the remedy is the right one for you, and will help you, are slim to none. Even if someone you know is raving about remedy "X", the very same remedy will most likely be not helpful to you, even if you have been diagnosed with the same sickness as your friend.
To maximize your chances of becoming well, I can only urge you to see a trained professional homeopath. There is a reason that only after several years of diligent study and even more years of practice, one can confidently apply homeopathy. Don't play lightly with the power of homeopathic remedies.

Dear Sir:
My sons and I began taking homeopathic medicines on December 15 prescribed by a homeopathic doctor for allergies. My question is if some of the allergy symptoms actually get worse at this stage of the treatment. If they do get worse at this stage, when can I expect them to get better. The doctor has prescribed these treatments for a total of three months.
My other question is about a treatment that I am also receiving from the same homeopathic doctor called neurologic adjustment for a back problem I am having. Do you have any information about this kind of treatment?

This is an urgent question. My wife is pregnant, and has practiced homeopathy for many years _ (we met four years ago and she has four children from a previous marriage). She is experiencing some spotting in the last few days and is in fear of miscarriage, though all her first four pregnancies were without incident. She wants to know if there is a remedy that may help prevent a miscarriage (we cannot locate the one vital homeopathy book we need). Please reply A.S.A.P.!
Thank you so much.
Editor's Response:As you probably know, it is virtually impossible to make any recommendations as to the remedy that might help your wife from the information you provide. It really needs a personal interview to decide on the simillimum. The best would be to contact a local homeoapth. You can look up classical homeopaths in your area by visiting Steven Waldstein's home page on the web at http://www.dimensional.com/~stevew/ and following the appropriate link from there. I would strongly advise you to contact a local homeopath as soon as possible for help.
Best wishes, -- C.K.

I'd like to receive any information available about the use of a "Vega" testing machine and the use of nosodes in the practice of homeopathy.
The Vega testing machine is one of an entire class of machines, which rely on measuring certain electrical characteristics of the skin to point the practitioner to a remedy. The use of these machines is not considered classical homeopathy, since the remedy was not found on the basis of homeopathy's main tenet: like cures like, the matching of symptoms a drug can produce to the symptoms presenting in the patient.
Your second question regarding the use of nosodes is easy to answer. Nosodes are used no different than any other remedy. If the symptom picture fits, the nosode will cure; if not, it won't. The use of nosodes has been adorned with much mysticism and speculation. In the views of classical homeopathy, though, nosodes are remedies to be prescribed like all others.

Feb 1311:39:05,
I started using homeopathy recently with an experienced practitioner and I am fairly happy with the results. There are a few things I don't understand, however. If homeopathy increases ones "life force" at a deep level, why should acupunture get in the way of a remedy. Acupuncture also works on a persons " life force" or chi. It seems to two therapies would only increase the health of the patient. Also, do substances like camphor always antidote a remedy? If so, why? Any opinions or information on these questions would be greatly appreciated.
By your reasoning, then, having brain surgery by two surgeons simultaneaously would double your chances of success. Not so. Apparently, the messages sent to the life force by homeopathy and acupuncture are subtly different. Although both therepies ultimately strengthen it, they reach their goal by different routes.
I would not advise somebody to pursue both modalies simultaneously. Mind you, that doesn't imply that one or the other is to be preferred! Just make up your mind which one you would like to embark on. If you are not happy, you can always switch.

I WAS HOPING YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO ANSWER A QUESTION REGARDING MIASMS. IN WHAT WAY DID KENT'S IDEAS ON MIASMS/CHRONIC DISEASE DIFFER FROM HAHNEMANN? YOUR HELP ON THIS MATTER WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
Your question is an interesting one and touches on historic as well as philosophical roots. Unfortunately the space to gice a satisfactory answer is too limited here. I would like to invite you to join the Lyghtforce mailing list and pose your question there. Some of the list's 700+ members will surely jump at the opportunity to shed light on the point you raise.

Topic: Sexual Dysfunction
Case:
1. Physical symptoms- strong built-5'5" tall-wide chest slim legs age 50 weight 155 lbs.
2. Erections weak, sometimes disappear during play or upon early ejaculation.
3. Erections disappear faster if standing isread of lying. Not very hard erections--about horizontal to ground (not pointing up).
4. Do get hard morning erections but does not last very long. I guess there is leak but during REM sleep, erections are quite strong.
5. Early , if not premature, ejaculation (Zoloft helps as long as you take it).
6. No lack of desire. Rather strong desire.
Q: Suggest: caladium? or Conium? or Agnus? or what?
The problem you describe is well within reach of several remedies. You yourself name 3, but there are many more to consider. Alas, the information you provide really isn't sufficient to make a decision. You need to see a well trained classical homeopathy, who will have a 1 to 1.5 hour long interview with you, touching on all subjects of your personality (not just the sexual ones).
If you need help finding a homeopath in your area, send me e-mail again.

I am new to homeopathy, brand new, in fact. The concept and promise of homeopathy has captured not only my thinking mind but my knowing heart. At the moment I would like to ask what remedy you would suggest for gastric acid coming up from the stomach and being felt most uncomfortably in the throat area. Also, what rememdy do you suggest for lower colon distress after eating meals? Also is there a homeopathic doctor in my area. I live in San Diego, more specifically, La Jolla. Thanks so much for responding. I look forward to hearing from you.
