Betsy Walker, DVM, did her undergraduate work in psychology and history at the University of Texas, Austin, USA. From there she pursued a B.S. degree in general agriculture at Oklahoma State University, where she graduated in 1983. Since then Betsy has worked in a very busy conventional veterinary practice in Austin. The years of practice brought her interest in medicine to the fore, leading her to switch to practicing part time and using the remainder of her waking hours to study alternative approaches. At the present Betsy still uses some conventional medicine, and also spends time as a telephone consultant in alternative veterinary medicine (herbs, nutritional counseling, homeopathy). She mentions Dr. Pitcairn has her greatest resource in veterinary homeopathy. Betsy is presently enrolled in The School of Homeopathy's correspondence course, directed by Misha Norland.

Betsy's other full time position and bottomless source of practice and experience is "Mom" of two children, a daughter of 12 and a son of 9 years. Like many other mothers, it was the children who brought Betsy to homeopathy. First, because of her dissatisfaction with conventional medicine, and secondly by witnessing the incredible efficacy of homeopathy in them.Although studying and practicing homeopathy can be quite a drain on one's energy, Betsy says that "seeing the miraculous change brought about by the right remedy keeps me hanging in there, wanting to practice."
